My art expresses a lifelong fascination with the challenge and psychological accessibility of figurative representation. The pieces consist of precisely-rendered elements placed in abstract or obviously staged surroundings. I work directly from models or still-life setups whenever possible, or photographs if necessary – never projecting the images. Although I strive for an altered but realistic look, I believe that my subjective perceptions and changes enhance the final result. In my paintings, I utilize the traditional technique of layering and glazing, very carefully blending and gradating my oils. My intention is that my pieces will hold up to close scrutiny, as well as from a distance.
